Why Head coverings?
The Word of God says:
"But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered" (1Cor.11:5-6)
"For man is not from woman, but woman from man; for neither was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this cause the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels" (1 Cor.11:8-10)
"Judge for yourselves. Is it appropriate that a woman pray to God unveiled?" (1Cor.11:13)
Further, in this same Epistle, Paul says these words, about the commands he wrote to the churches:
"Let your wives keep silent in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the law also says. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the assembly. What? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone? If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord" (1Cor.14:34-37)
Compare it with what Paul wrote to Timothy:
"Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. But I don’t permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. For Adam was first formed, then Eve" (1Tim.2:11-13)
People say, "The command to cover the head for women and the command for women to remain silent and not to teach in the church - these were just cultural traditions in the 1st century. Today we live in the 21st century, and we do not need them anymore".
It's amazing, but what the Apostle Paul called the commandments of God, today people call a tradition. At the same time they are carefully following their tradition (for women not to cover their heads), by which they have abolished the commandment of God, like the Pharisees at the times of Jesus (Mt.15:3-9).
In this case, absolutely no attention is drawn to the fact that Paul claimed that his commandments are not his, these are the commandments of God. Also, no attention is paid to the fact that Paul does not mention a single word about any Greek or Corinth tradition, referring to the need for women to cover their heads in prayer. He gives an example of the order of creation (first the husband was created, then the wife), and also says that the veil on the head serves as a sign for the angels. Where is the mention of any tradition here? Moreover, what Paul wrote was, in fact, against tradition. We know from history that married women in ancient Rome covered their heads, but in Greece, where Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, there was no custom that forced women to cover their heads. This is a historical fact that is ignored by modern interpreters!
Next, writing about the need for women to cover their heads, the Apostle Paul gives evidence from nature that teaches us the difference between men and women, and, finally, he refers to the generally accepted church practice of women covering their heads in all churches.
But today, calling the commandment of God a tradition, women in the churches massively took off their head coverings (have it happened in your church too?). Moreover, today women in churches freely teach men, rule over men, and even become "pastors". Again, this falling away from Biblical faith is accomplished with tacit consent, and sometimes with the active participation and approval of church leaders, male pastors who have departed from God and His truth. These are just two examples of how in modern Christianity the commandments of God are being replaced and abolished by human traditions.
